Oh i was also looking at the old source codes, mann.. catalyst is an amazing programmer...

On windows I do not know how to restore your path, linux restores the path as per /etc/env.d (on gentoo) on a reboot, perhaps windows has some way of doing the same? I doubt it... but it could happen...

Why would you believe that there is a "God" who can control everything in the universe and who is aware of everything that happens? On what would you base such a belief? There is no proof that such a being exists, or is required to exist for the universe to exist as it does. I actually consider anyone who does believe in god to be delusional at best, clinically insane at worst.

I'm a believer in truth by proof. Things are true because there is scientific proof that they are true. Believing in things which have no scientific proof is just fuzzy thinking; fuzzy thinking which is detrimental to rational thought.

there is a specific book (i will edit this post when i figure it out) that comes up with a really neat explination of the whole god and satan thing. In the book, one alien came to earth and talked to "jesus" in the desert trying to help him, but he refused help and "jesus" called the aliens "satan" (because thats what the aliens looked like).

2000 years later, they come back but never reveal themselves but remain on the planet for 50 years trying to rid the world of the prejiduce. when they do reveal themselves, they looked like satan.

I believe this theory is not fiction :D

You are soo close minded. I am atheist, but I am more accepting towards theists. My family is hindu, and I still try to keep up with the traditions and celebrations because it is important. they believe in god, but i still respect them anyway. You cant label someone who thinks differently than you as "delusional", you need to be more accepting.
But the one thing I cant stand about religen is this need to convert others. It is wrong, its like saying "our cultre is better than yours, you suck! be more like us!" and it restricts diversity.
Modern christianity isnt fraud. I believe it tries to instil good moral values. Santa is a fraud though, he is just some marketing gimmick that prays on the imagination of children. Santa has changed christmas from a day of celebrating Jesus's birth into selfish materialism. Santa has degenerated christmas. He was created by masive corperations to make more money. I'm sure they will try to do the same with other religons like islam, hinduism judism etc. I find using religeon to promote matirealism just disgusting.

This is something I find interesting. In our culture, religious beliefs are accorded a sort of automatic respect, and I don't understand (completely) why this is. For example:

If I were to go around saying that the sky is red, people would disbelieve me. In fact, most people would challenge me on my belief, and even go so far as to call me delusional. And it would be true.

However, if instead of saying the sky is red, I said that I believed in God, or in a more illustrative sense said that I believed that the sky was red because it was my religion, I would be accorded automatic respect by many people - it's a fact, and if you pay careful attention, you'll see this kind of baseless respect of baseless beliefs being accorded all around you.

The fact of the matter is, baseless religious beliefs are delusional. The fact that they are "important" doesn't matter - the Earth's flatness was once important, and it didn't stop it from being wrong. The fact that many religions are "traditions" is equally irrelevant - just because a bad/wrong idea has lasted a long time does not mean it's any less bad or wrong.

Labelling those who think differently than you delusional can be very correct in certain circumstances (like baseless, unproved beliefes about the world). It is a negative way to get the point across, but it's often quite correct.

Re: Yet another pointless and contentious thread.

-----------------------------------

Well I dont know much about christianity, but religions such as hinduism, buddism and jainism aren't baseless. These religions were created by ancient sholars, a lot of thought went in to them. There are reoccuring themes within these religions such as the idea of attachment being bad, as it leads to greed and greed leads to suffering of others. There have been many stories within the indian scriptures that supports this thiinking. They belive that everything has a right to life, no one has the right kill anyone (including animals, and gandhi strongly supported hinduism thats why he was passive and a vegetarian). These religions dont have a creation stories, but hinduism does belive in gods. These gods dont have the power to create planets and life, they just have supernatural powers :P . Their only significance is to express all the themes and morals. These religions believe in reincarnation and karma, which may seem like a hoax now, but back then it made sence to them, as they believe that depending on your karma from your previous life(how good of a person you were) you may be reincarnated into something good or something bad. They saw that some people lived in extreme poverty, while others lived wealthy, so they concluded that everyone wasnt born equally, and some force must be controlling your living condition in life. This idea of an after life brought civil order, and because of this idea of karma, the rich were more corteous towrds the poor. darn it I have to go, we'll continue this later.

Re: Yet another pointless and contentious thread.

-----------------------------------

Before anyone else says that Christianity is about diversity or accepting others (loving thy neighbor etc.) I wish to point to the Bush administration in the states and the "Christian Right" which supports it. Those are modern day Christians, at least in north America, and no matter how much you try and claim that they don't represent every Christian the sad truth is that they represent a significant majority.

Now, addressing what you have said spearmonkey2000,

There are reoccuring themes within these religions such as the idea of attachment being bad, as it leads to greed and greed leads to suffering of others. There have been many stories within the indian scriptures that supports this thiinking. Attachment is not bad in and of itself. If no one got attached to people then there would be no families and humanity would die out rather quickly. I'm not even sure there is any harm in attachment at all unless taken to extremes and people who do that generally do it out of illness. Greed is also a bit hard to value; greedy parents are better able to support their kids thus ensuring survival of the species. However too much greed is bad for society as a whole. Again, it's not that greed is bad but that taking it to an extreme is bad.

They belive that everything has a right to life, no one has the right kill anyone (including animals, and gandhi strongly supported hinduism thats why he was passive and a vegetarian). Believe all they want; I still say that beef tastes good and if I have to kill a cow to get it then get me a gun, 'cause it's eat'n time.

These religions dont have a creation stories, but hinduism does belive in gods. These gods dont have the power to create planets and life, they just have supernatural powers Razz . God == Gods == supernatual beings. I don't care how much power they are believed to have, they don't exist. There is no rational reason for thinking they exist. Believing in anything that has absolutely zero scientific proof, something which cannot even be proven because "faith" says it to be true and science can't disprove faith; now if that's not delusional then I don't know what is.

Morals do not require religion. Religion actually hinders morality as usually morality is achieved through fear. "Don't do X, or you'll go to hell" is a very poor motivator for people doing anything. If your going to try and instill morals in someone it's much better to teach them from a young age that your morals are correct because they are the universally accepted rules of society. Religion can be wrong, society as a whole can be equally be wrong; but it's in charge and mob rules always end up mattering most. Oh, and I think you have seriously misread everything having to do with rich/poor. I suggest reading up on the caste system.

Karma on the other hand is a real thing. If you go around treating people poorly they will resent you and treat you poorly. Treat people well and they tend to treat you well. Nothing mystical in that, just plain old psychology.

As for religion in general, just because many people over many centuries thought long and hard over something does not make it true. I think about it all the time; but in the last 15 years no matter how much I believe it to be true I still don't own a large yacht, nor am I rich. Thinking does not make truth.

Ok.....................................................................
the reason why you cant be a god and a human at the same time is that ...let use say for whatever reason you wish (insert wish here) you change your self to a human therefore since now your a human you don't have any powers (last time checked human have no supernatural abllites) therefore there would be any god anymore. Subsequently since your a human now you cant change back to a god if you where a human !!! Furthermore all of this depends upon your definition of GOD  :!: :?: :!:
