[FP] stands for Final Project, and it is a conest for people on the site to make a project (whether it be a game, cool graphics, 3d, particle engine, ect) and submit it to the forum. They will be looked over by the judges and awards will be given out (bits and a @compsci.ca email i beleive, correct me if im wrong).

I belive there are no limits to size (your upload limit can be modified for this, just ask) or what language you use.

Very fun, and you get to see what fellow compsci-ers can do.

Oh, sounds cool. Maybe I'll enter it next year. Currently, the only thing I code well is PHP, and I don't exactly have any great ideas of what I could make with it for this, nor the time to execute them.

Ha same here but this year I'm definitely going to actually learn a new language. I can't say I know PHP 100% either but I do write sites for people here and then, latest is http://www.bleed-comics.com :D

Right now, between coding, I'm learning Java and C. There both pretty nice languages.

I prefer web development. Don't know why: its probably because it's what I started with.

I know Turing like the back of my hand (with the exception of the Net commands), and I'm learning VB6 right now. Can't really make anything good in VB yet, so i'll probably stick to my guns with this one, and whip the old computer hogging, 600kb+ compiling Turing ^^.

VB6?? Upgrade to VB2005 :P not much more support for VB6

I don't know if we're even having a final project...

I'm certain there's much you could still learn from Turing. Not to say that another language couldn't teach you twice as much twice as well, but the fact remains. :)

I don't know if we're even having a final project...
So just submit the best program you made during the year. I'm sure it doesn't really matter that much.

Lol.....all we've been doing is form-type programs. In VB. I don't think too many people would be happy about that XD

How about programs you've made on your own time? ;)

I may actully enter this if I get time. I was thinking last night about a project I could attempt (did't cross my mind as a FP at first). Without giving too much away, the idea is a server for Cross-IM client chat. IE: someone on AIM could message someone on MSN, or vice-versa. The server comes into more use for chatroom enviorments.

I'll admit it, i don't know classes, or recursion, net commands, ect.

I'm currently learning VB6 right now, with little luck, my teacher is just as new to it as we are, she's reading from a book, posting the code on a projector, and getting us to copy down. Just give me the freaking book, i'll learn easier.

copying down code from an overhead? there has got to be a better way to learn :?

anyways, participating in FP is a great way to challenge yourself, and get to the level you want to be at. Obviously we'll help you out with the development, and at the end you get to say you've build something cool (that, and gotten an excellent mark if it's for school) :D
