*sigh*... i didn't think i'd need to post information on this. have you tried clicking on anything? really, anything at all. clicking on the dots (those dots actually form words) will perform that action (in the most likely case, make a new user), and clicking on the arrows will go to the previous/next option which would probably inspire you to click on the new word that shows up (after the spinning is done).

no cuz when i use View.Update in a loop and dont put a delay after it, it slows down my program really badly... but when i do that in school(they got win NT) it doesn't slow down at all!!!

So, there you go!

anyways, the new version is uploaded it. i think it's because of the music (and lack thereof) so it should work fine. as for the slow dots, sometimes turing lags like a bitch on my computer, it isnt the program because it runs fine on the schools win98 computers so try restarting if it happens again

EDIT:
don't you worry about View.Update... i've got my "super-secret-all-rights-reserved-if-you-use-it-i-will-kill-you" proc to help with that.

homer, i think you misunderstood the purpose of the hack program. the idea wasn't to write a program that gets the password, seeing as i didn't bother too greatly with writing some award winning encryption algorithm. in fact:
function _cryption (text : string) : string % en/de cryptor
    var _crypted := ""
    for i : 1 .. length (text)
        _crypted += chr (255 - ord (text (i)))
    end for
    result _crypted
end _cryption

it's just that simple.

no, the idea was to make an account hacking program in order to get yourself free upgrades tonnes of ammo and a shitload of money. and if you took a look in the pics folder you would notice files such as ability5.bmp and ability6.bmp both of which you can't get access to normally. and two other ships in the shippics folder, the smythinator (a good way to get bonus marks: make the teacher's ship unbeatable) and mazer (... make the teachers ship unbeatable by all but your own  ). without messing with filenames (which would yield some butt ugly results) you'd need to truly hack the account.

yeah, do that! Now that I found a bug that lets me cheat, I'm gonna kick all of your asses... well, untill mazer brings out the big guns from the actual build in cheats he programmed

bug? i'd like to hear about this... as for the built in cheats, there's only the One Ring code (is that what you meant?) which is only for fun. after the game in which you use it, all of your levels are reduced to 1. but i would kick ass no matter what. see the ship labeled "Mazer.bmp"? and the file "hadoken.wav"... i think you can draw your own conclusions

mazer, tell me this one thing... are the things i need to hack your program writen in an account file... or do i need to make a trainer like program that changes the value of varaibles when game is running?!

you aren't actually hacking the program itself. everything that has to do with the player (levels, ammo, money... ship type...) are stored in their account files. of course, i used binary file handling for it so if you try to edit the files in notepad you'll corrupt/fuck them up. so to write the hacking program you'd pretty much need to know the exacty record that my procedures use for storing and loading info. as for a trainer, i don't think that's even possible. not in turing anyways. you can only have one turing program running at one time i think.

anyways, if nobody comes up with a hacker by the time exams are over (actually, past that, you should spend your time on studying, not coding  ), then i'll post mine.

PS, what are you trying to show me in that screenshot? everything (except the font) seems to be in order...

oh.. so you're saying you hacked the money... ok. it's just that it's hard to tell that's how you got the money, for all i know you could've won that much by playing. it'd be easier to see for sure if you gave yourself more ammo (each weapon has a max amount of ammo you can buy so just give yourself 40 of everything or something so i can see.). also, don't just send a screenshot, try to post the account file so i can run it here.

well... the final project was assigned... i think it was april or may (anyone else remember)

 :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

for those who don't understand, i actually started this project around october (that's before the midterm project was even assigned). it all started when i was boasting about my comp sci l337-ness to a friend who commented that i could never make a better game than a fellow by the name of Rui, who apparently got a really good mark on his project for the previous year. after that, it became a quest to beat his mark. of course, i forgot what mark he got and i was worried people would get bored if i kept asking them what his mark was so i just decided to milk all the bonus marks i could.

i have no idea. i guess that's because i'm bad at math

don't understand what i mean? maybe it'd help if i explain the teacher's understanding of sucess in computer science.

being really good at math means you must be really good at computer science
being... not so good at math means you must be a complete dumbass that should burn in hell listening to mr. ferrara talk about how the first computer programmer was a girl and we should all give a damn.

to sum up: i did really bad in grade 9 math (and not so great in grade 10 math... and not much better in grade 11... i have high hopes for next year: finite, enriched calc, and algebra :D ), so instead of my math teacher say something like "nick, i see you're taking computer science next year. you should consider taking grade 11 computer science because i'm really stupid and don't think much." nobody said anything, so i ended up taking grade 10 where we did nothing.

luckily there were the turing websites where i learned all this stuff and ended up being a better comp sci student than some people in grade 11 comp sci. without being good at math. go figure.

er... anyways, i don't know what he made. ther's my story

-----------------------------------

I'd agree with Catalyst on this one... our school just doesn't give bonus marks and really the highest mark you could possibly get in a course is like 89 (I did manage to get a 93 in comp sci this year though...) for like science and english and shit... those people who try really hard and do all their homework and study for years for a test and kiss the teachers ass constantly (you know the kind of person I mean...) pretty much the highest mark they get is an 89 and sometimes, if they do some extra ass kissing a 95 ... but never 100's or anything

as far as that idea of math goes... it's somewhat true that if you're not very good at math that you won't be that good at programming... but you can't base anything on marks alone... I never try in any of my courses (cept maybe comp sci, because I enjoy it...) and sometimes I'll get good marks, sometimes I won't... lol the funniest thing is that for like the second half of calculus last semester I didn't do like half the questions on a lot of the tests and still managed to get an 80 in the course, which confused and amused the hell out of me, because in class I would just sit there staring blankly and thinking about how stupid the people were but whatever ... you can't decide how someone will do in one course based on the mark they got in another...

well unless its next level of the course... such as if one got 51% in compsci 10, chances are, they gonna fail compsci 11... the thing is... I dont understand why those people still take compsci 12

I'm serious. I got people who cant understand for loops in my grade 12 computer science. Most of them actually.

Mazer

Thu Jun 12, 2003 4:31 pm

-----------------------------------

  thanks for the support guys. anyways, my problem was that everyone was telling me that i would get more than perfect so i was kinda expecting more than perfect. i mean, on the mark sheet it said "100+" and i'm all like "well... 100 plus what?!" so i asked smythe and he said it was just 100 because i already had 100% in compsci.

so the lesson is this:
do REALLY good in class all year
OR
do REALLY good on your FP and half-ass in class

but not both. unless you have ferrara in which case if you don't do everything (which you won't because you'll be bored to tears) you'll fail.

PS: the mark sheet said for the game 70+ and below that it said with preliminary evaluations 100+
now, for the sake of my sanity i'll assume he meant 70 + 100. the second plus was supposed to be + x for which i'll be humble and make x = 0.

therefore, my mark was 70 + 100 + 0 = 170
now in order for me to not be upset again, i'm going to assume the project was out of 70, which gives me a nice little 243%... ah, that's much better :D

Tony

243% ? Not bad... not bad at all 8)

Martin

-----------------------------------

Meaning that if you don't touch it you can hand it in again next year and get perfect for a second time :P...but Ferrara's trying to get C++, so you might get to do that next year

-----------------------------------

Mazer

Thu Jun 12, 2003 6:32 pm

-----------------------------------

c++? yay! but wait... don't you think ferrara would want to at least learn the basics of turing before starting on c++? :P

actually, i've been hearing rumours that they're gonna hire another teacher to replace smyth for comp sci. it's probably not likely but when i think of another year with ferarra, this rumour is all that keeps me going.

yeah, i deleted the file because i didn't like to have too many files on the website. not that i didn't have enough room, i just didn't like to look at so many files when i logged in. er, anyways... just use the same link but change .rar to .zip

i think i took down the .rar file because the game is mostly downlaoded from school computers now (i wonder why  ) and the computers at my school all have winzip instead of winrar. so there, you can downlaod the game but i don't know why you'd want to. i'm starting to learn opengl and stuff now so if you just wait approximately 3.141592653 years, you'd have a better version to play.

also... one beef... when i went to log in.. i though i could maybe log in using the same account for both players... but since i did not have a proper log in... i could not go BACK to creat user...
i had to exit program

that would only suck if you had an account and when to go log in using that account... but you forgot your ID name.......
maybe entering user Id as "back" could go back to main...
