I'm assuming your on windows so download: http://www.mirc.com/get.html and install it

Once installed open it up, now click the 2nd icon in the list of icons, this is the Options icon (that looks like the windows CP icon). Under the main branch 'connect' fill out your Full Name, Email Address, Nickname, and Alternative nickname :P Press Okay.

Once you have done that, in the 'chat box' area type what rizzix said in his first post, you should be automatically directed to the compsci channel... if not type /join #compsci.ca in your 'chat box' area to join the channel XD

Oh and if your behind a router/firewall you might need to forward port 6667 :P

EnJoY!
P.S. You don't put irc.compsci.ca in your browser's address bar o.O

We have wiki articles about "The", "Noob", and "Food", but nobody thought to write a guide to using IRC? Why am I paying you morons?

 :snooty:

SuperFreak82, you can just go to http://www.afternet.org/component/option,com_chat/Itemid,60/, set up your nickname, join channel #compsci.ca, and connect.

A complete guide to IRC? Do you know how complicated and unnecessary that would be?

Besides, I'm pretty sure I added the necessary information to the
To join the CompSci.ca IRC community, you need an IRC Client. We recommend X-Chat. Join any of the servers and channels described below.
Along with the X-Chat page (which does exist, SuperFreak82) for links to download.

Though perhaps something on the IRC Channel page to actually show how to connect to a server and join a channel... Apparently that could actually be useful.

No, sorry, I meant just a guide to getting started. Really, we don't need to go as in depth as THE GAME or stuff like leeching anime and games from fservs; just explain what the client is, how to connect to a server, how to join a channel, and of course which server and channel we can be found at.

Damn you Mazer! I lost :(

Is a guide to connecting to IRC even possible? I mean unless it's really general (and thus useless) it'd be quite difficult to accomidate all people wanting to connect. I mean installing a client on windows ain't hard; but think of all those using linux... not so easy then.
