You can can always go to the sun microsystems site.  You can find the applet tutorial [url=http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/applet/]here.

You can also go to this [url=http://www.dgp.toronto.edu/~mjmcguff/learn/java/]site.  This is one is good for a quick understanding of applets.
