I don't understand why they haven't already released it and created a sign up system. Really, I think they've gotten enough advertisement through these invites.

Maybe it's an effort to keep the newbs out?

If you were google, would you really want someone that sends messages as

"0mg!!!11 1 n33dzorz s0m3 gmail 1nvites!! LOL so i can 0wn newbz in shool who cant s1gn up!!!1 0wned LOL!! INVITES!! ROFL XD"

you can sign up; it requires a cell phone. And since invites are oh so easy to get really the point now is to keep it from exploding so fast that they run out of space. Slow growth means that they have time to add if need be. 'Course given that google's storage is rumoured to be infinite...

Invites means that people still have to talk about GMail.

Take this post for example. It's an advertisement for GMail. That's what the plan has been for Google from the start. Google wants people to be able to use GMail, but they also want people to have to ask for it.

Hmmm, what to you mean you have 20 invites for Windows Live Messenger? Because I got an invite right away in hotmail, Im not sure if everyone did... Also after installing it, it never said how many invites I had, in fact it seemed as though I could invite as many people as I wanted.

Just a note on Live: Unfortunately, it uninstalls your old Messenger, which isn't bad unless you relied on the functionality of Messenger Plus! Which isnt compatible with Live yet. Which sucks, cuz I depended on the tab, and bold system of Messenger Plus. I really don't understand why a tab system (like the firefox one) wasn't implemented.

IM has two parts to it

1: network / protocol - means to exchange data
2: software client - means of interpreting data exchanged over the network

if your client doesn't offer you the feature you want (tabs), find a better one. I use [url=http://adiumx.com/screenshots.php]Adium, though after you get excited about its awesome features - it's for Macs only

Gaim supports tabs, as does aMSN. Gaim, at least, works on Windows, I don't know about aMSN for sure. There are lots of others, but these are the two that I've used. Sorry, no links; I need my sleep, and you need your Google-fu.

Oh i used google. But something was lost in translation. I don't want a new client then. I'm too socially integrated into MSN to stop. I was complaining because a Add-on called Messenger Plus! had that feature... But the new Live
isnt compatible with Plus! and for some reason it didn't implement tabs (stupid). I was really looking for an Add-on for the Live client that featured tabs.

There are clients that work with MSN and other IM protocols as well. You are not limited to the horrible, bloated MSN Messenger.

In even simpler terms... There are programs that allow you to talk to others who use MSN which are not made my Minscrosoft.

And there are indeed invites for WLM- go to http://www.ideas.live.com, sign in and check to see if you have any.

Either way, to those who want invites, PM or post your email address here.

And um, WLM isn't that great... but it has some stuff from MSN+; speaking of which, tabbed conversations are coming to WLM in the next release.

**EDIT**
BAH, you don't need invites anymore :P

don't you mean http://mess.be?

Edit: I've used WLM, it really sucked, Even though it's still a beta, it crashed way to much, Used almost double the memory Messenger 7.5 uses, the interface didn't look to good either. The "Now playing" didnt seem to work right either, it cut off the artist and only left " - ". Other than that I didnt really get much use out of it, seeing as everyone on my msn list uses 7.5 or 7.0, and the fact that this is a multi-user machine and only my email was set to be using the beta

Is this the public beta a new build (i tried the non-public last week)?

@Tony ahhh! I get it now... Sorry, thought you were suggesting me to get a new client that has a tab system (but i didnt realize you were saying that I could still talk to my old contacts who use MSN). in which case I'll look for something like that.
