If you release CO2 now, the earth will remain cold.. True, there is a delay. If we were to stop all emissions now, global warming would continue progressing for the next 50 or so years. (If that doesn't rock your socks and make you want to go hug a tree, I don't know what will.) But it does mean, on average, the Earth will be hotter. It doesn't mean winters will get colder, all the time. It means the likelihood of extreme weather events increases: There's more heat in the atmosphere, therefore there's more energy, therefore there's more and bigger storms.
