----------------------------------- person Sun Jan 01, 2006 12:10 pm removing heatsink+fan from P4 530J ----------------------------------- does anyone here happen to know how to remove the fan and heatsink from a pentium 4 530J? i found 4 levers that seem to be the clips that clip the fan+heatsink to the cpu but apparently they just wont move when i try to move them i know this is probably a long shot asking here because everyone else probably has a different cpu but, o well ----------------------------------- brenn Sun Jan 01, 2006 5:30 pm ----------------------------------- Um... Picture? :S Well, if it's the big, round one, you'd need an electric philips screwdriver. Sometimes it feels like you're going to snap something, but that's just the pressure required. Assuming of course I know what you're talking about.... PS. They go through the motherboard and won't go back through unless squeezed togther with plyers, and pushing them inwards (back through the hole) the heatsink should no longer be grasping onto the motherboard. Now you just have to get the heatsink off the processor, if it doesn't come off right away. This can be done by: Turning the comptuer on and letting the CPU get hot, then turning it off quickly, and removing the heatsink. OR by removing the heatsink and CPU together then using a hair dryer to heat up the heatsink compound holding them together (I saw both methods on another forum. I haven't tested them.). Going the above way, would require the removing of the motherboard inorder to get at the clips on the bottom. The alternative to all that is to figure out how to remove the 4 black plastic clips on the top. My guess is, once they turn all the way (in the direction of the arrows) they should pull off (From what I can see in this [url=http://home.cogeco.ca/~chrisbarrett/fansink_1.jpg]picture). Then its a matter of breaking the bound of the heatsink and CPU. Hope this can help you remove the heatsink. And remember I'm not responsible if you break anything following any advice I've given. Oh, and why exactly are you trying to removing the heatsink?
