Cool Ice Background

-----------------------------------

** For some reason I cannot upload images so they're in a zip folder **
I Figured I'd post a tutorial since i have nothing better to do with my life, and no one's really done anything since . . feb? i think so, anyways . .

This is what the final result will look somewhat like: (final.jpg)

Now I used 200x200 just because it's easier to do for a tutorial, but use whatever size is good for your background.

Select the Gradient Tool (G) with these settings:
- Black to White
- Reflected Gradient (horzontal stripe)
- and Difference for blend mode

Now click all over your canvas. This is what mine looked like: (1.jpg)

Now go Filter -> Blur -> Radial Blur with:
- Amount: 100
- Zoom
- Best

Duplicate the layer. Now go Filter -> Filter -> Distort -> Polar Coordinates
[- Using Polar to Rectangle -]

Now you can set the blending mode of the new layer to either Lighten or Darken, whichever you think looks better.

Here's mine with lighten: (lighten.jpg)

Now what I did after that was I duplicated the first layer again, only I flipped the image horizontally so that I would have more 'beams' shooting out. [- using lighten -]. I did the same with the Vertical bars (which should be your 3rd layer)

Now you should have a pretty cool black and white image. You can either through a hue/saturation on the entire image, or go layer by layer and go to Enhance -> Color -> Hue/Saturation; that way. (Which i think is better)

Play around with the colors and enjoy your background :)

Nice and simple tutorial, good job :).

Now, since I basically suck at art, I just edited the final image around to look a bit more like conventional ice (I don't have photoshop btw).
