Post subject:  Making an Immage darker and scarrier

I am making a background for the school play in photoshop that is going to be projected as a background on the stage and I need to take an immage of a forest and make it very greyish and dark. I was wondering how to make a filter so that an immage becomes more dank (I have tried burning the immage but it didn't get the look I wanted).

Any help would be appreciated. I have photoshop 7.0

Did you try adujusting the levels? I'm not sure what effect you're looking for, but you could try that. Also try the lighting effects filter and see if you can acheive the effect you want by playing around with different types and values. You could also try desaturating it a bit, in combination with the ohter methods if you're going for a greyish/dark look.

If u turned it into greyscale, I'm sure everything will be greyish and dark Laughing

well I was thinking about tha but then it is to grey adn dark. I just wanted a musty sort of grey look that wasn't quite black.

I really wanted Fangorn Forest form the Two Towers but all the shots I could find had characters taking up half of the shot.

Got those pics. Although the larger one is pretty difficult to do much with because of the odd lighting. But I'll work on it tomorow when I have some more time.

(While I was looking for possible alternative forest pics to use I found one that already looks somewhat 'eerie'. I'm assuming that you're trying to achieve an effect similar to this one.)

Wow, I never seen this topic. How come?
So what do you want? To make a picture gray? Change the image type. Darker? CTRL+B (or is it CTRL+U see whcih one) and change the lightnes and etc. Depends on what you want.

Smile need help ask.

exactly, (me=bad at describing things) errie was the word I was searching for. That one is good. I think we are going to use a fog machine on the stage an stuff so I was tryig to get it to look like that.

Thanks for the help.

Anytime. Though even with that one I posted, you can do a little photoshopping to make it look even darker/foggier. (Try some of the techniques I mentioned earlier.) And in combination with real fog I'm sure it will do a fine job achieving the desired effect.

With a brush set to low opacity and low flow.

(Is how I would do it.)

I'll post my version tomorrow.
