Mike Rowe, a 17-year-old resident of Victoria, British Columbia, has agreed to pick a new name for his Web site, currently called www.mikerowesoft.com, said Microsoft spokesman Jim Desler. Mike's father, Kim Rowe, confirmed that his son had struck an agreement with Microsoft. Rowe said his son could not be interviewed Friday because he had to study for final exams. Mike also is working feverishly to put together a new Web site, his father said. Desler said Microsoft would cover Mike's costs of changing to a new Web site and redirecting traffic from the old site. Microsoft also had agreed to help the teen get Microsoft certification training and other gifts, including an Xbox game console, he said, and has invited Mike to a technology festival in March at the corporation's headquarters in suburban Redmond. "We wanted to do this in a way that's going to foster his interest in technology," Desler said. In a posting on his Web site earlier this month, the teen said he received a 25-page letter from Microsoft informing him he was committing copyright infringement, and threatening legal action. Desler said Friday that Microsoft believes it's important to take steps to prevent widespread infringement of its name. But he conceded Microsoft's original approach was "admittedly maybe impersonal." this is old news, he aggrded to chage the name of the web site to MikeRowFourms.com or somting like that and M$ gave him an xbox and a tone of free stuff. aswell as paying for new domain name. |

well the way I figured, many people add "soft" when coming up with a name for some tech related "company". I'm sure I've called something "TonySoft", though probly as a joke  I don't really recall doing so, but I assume I might have

NO it was like a dummy site , jsut had some forum on it , he has had 18 thousand hits in the past 20 hours and he now has 2143 active members on his forum ,his WIPO book is still for sale apparently its at 31 thousand USD right now , 110 bids , , the little reject did some stupid stuff though , microsoft gave him a free xbox and MSDN subscription right , so what does he do , he goes live on tech tv and announces the first thing he will be doing is puttiing linux on teh xbox , i mean thats uncalled for ,there giving him all this stuff for a domain he paid 10 USD dollars for , , peopel are flaming him all over the world |

The People that really tick me off , are the ones who give linux a bad name , they talk like " Oh Windows sucks , linuz is the best " , it seems that no one wants to point out errors in linux at all , we seen to devoure MS and always complain , yet most the rpeople that make those linux statements use windows themselves , or MS related products , Linus Torvaldes said it best , " Most my family use windos , and im alright with that, i dont think its ready for home use yet , there are still lots of things it needs help with , and its got a not so long compatibility list " , he spoke truth , yes its free and good , but microsotf , release a OS that peopel like and use , no one can deny that , Yes ms overcharge i belive but they still put out a good product , peopel want to say that they were the bad guy in the mike rowe story but look, they game him a whole bunch , and even an all expense paid trip to redmont , to go to the techCON , to see the future of technology , if anyone aver wants to know the true story of how MS got up and APPLE , you should watch pirates of silicon valley , its a n awsome movie taht portrayes how it all started , and just to get you interested , MS and APPLE stle the mouse idea , who from you say ? , XEROX thats right the photocopy company , they invented it !!! |

i would have to agree, because a lot of people wouldnotbe here if it weren't for windows. windows was probablythe first os you might have used, it was for me. i probably would have made the website though, just because i would have thought it was really funny, but i probably would have got scared about one of the largest corporatiions on earth coming to sue me and telling me i was comitting copyright infringement |

his new site is : www.mikeroweforums.com if you go to mikerowesoft.com it AUTO redirects you to his new site( courtesy of MS) which i think was nice... also having this new site.. the host is probaly better as he needed mroe bandwidth with all the publicity.... again hes a lucky KID...FROM BC!!!! yea.... was up on the WestSide! (i lived in BC for 10 years..out of 15) also all these ppl that dis MS and say it sucks,,, all other OS's suck worse... like common... okay this is where things get good , if you want to know the entire truth just watch " Piraes of silicon Valley " BUT ANYWAYS I stated in other threads that , in a world right now without windows we would not be doing very well , everyone wants to complain about how much MS sucks but when you have what a majority wan you can charge whatever you want because peopel want it , I quoated before also , there are a whole bunch of people that for the hell of demeaning MS say that linux rox and windows sux , i mean im a fan of linux and have and do use it myself , but i admit if i want stability and drivers and 3d graphics i go back to windows or OSX , but there are no bad OS on that list , I mean without Linux there would be no xbox server, and did you know sony sell a licenced PS2 linux kit wiht a hard drive addon , and that it can be adapted to almost anything , Ok now Windows , its really userfriendly and is widley supported , it has good support and is a good OS , mos peopel adapt to it Mac & Apple they have the shortest computer manual in the world , and also have hte most stable systems becasue al of the hardware is made for that computer thus everything works at its maximum speed and potential " A computer can only run as fast as its slowest component " This make Apple , rock , and they have an awsome OS , but there problem is their support from other compans and gaming companies is weak , they have great stuff but some peopel are afraid to leave windows The best quoate for a windows hater and linux love r ( not a real one , jsut the ones who say it to be cool and have never used it before ) Linus Torvaldes -- " My Family uses windows and that does not bother me , i know that Linux is not readyfpr the home user yet , but its getting there " Lets just get it right , that each has their advantage , dont demean any of them and do not praise just one , they all have their good and bad aspects , just stop with the retarded LINUX ROCKS WINDOWS SUX stuff , when you know what your talking about and can back it up with anexplenation LIKE I HAVE , then come join our conversation ------ Shorthair |

i now think that he is a total idiot. he doesn't make software, so why call his site mikerowesoft, it's just a grab for attention and hits for his site. and why is he also selling that book about all his stuff, who actually wants all that, they are peices of paper not even addressed to you on copyright stuff, and stuff like that is public domain i think so you could go to your library and read copyright things. i think he's just an idiot for sucking stuff out of microsoft, even if you think ms is evil, almost everyone on this board uses microsoft products and would not be able to use a computer without microsoft. |

could you imagine if you had adware on the site that gave even 1 penny per unique hit , dude it would be a huge a mount of money, lets say you had 10 ads at a penny a hit each 50 000 hits = 500 dollars an ad 5 x 10 = 50 2500 dollars

his idea was good, but it was lowsy and lame and its a quick way to get attention and products without actually really working for it. hes gotten cocky with the whole thing, soon where going to be hearing about him selling his used toilet paper on ebay, or his cats used kitty litter. there are some people that i just really dislike for things they do, and this is an example, i didn't really know a lot at the beginning, and i still don't but why call your website mikerowesoft.com if YOU DON"T MAKE SOFTWARE. sorry im on a rant, this pisses me off a lot. |
