Does ranks go up by the number of posts you have? I'm not sure if that's how you say it, but mine is Newbe Programmer just for an example. I'm just wondering

Yup. And admins sometimes change peoples ranks, according to their own will. There's a wiki somewhere on the ranks I think |

The wiki is currently offline due to DNS rerouting we've been doing, but should be back soon. The ranks essentially go up in powers-of-2 increments of your post counts. Off Topic posts don't contribute to that count though. |

Custom ranks aren't linked to bits or post counts. They are the product of sheer awesomeness and sticking around long enough for Tony or Dan to offer you one. |

For instance, if I remember correctly, there was a user named Andy whose rank was changed to whatdocolour warrior for his famous use of whatdotcolour in turing to solve most issues, when it came to anything. |

I really like the concept of stars to indicate the # of years you've been around. I actually initially thought that "Tony's clone" was custom as well . Also, what do the stars (or hearts) just below your username represent? Level of awesomeness  ? |

Wow, more and more stuff is turning into legacy software around here... the filled in blocks/hearts/stars are a "rank image" associated with a particular rank. |

@Tony: Not too much. Parents both got hurt at work a while ago, so I took time off school to work and help them out. Saving up money to both pay off the debts I incurred there and to pay for continued schooling

Wow... I lurk around every so often and just seeing that I have [12] stars blows my mind. I am currently in a comp sci course, but it is quite lame at the moment, I will be getting back into python soon though, so I'll be around a bit more methinks. |
