Hey, I know absolutly nothing about C++, and i am in an introductory computer course, but I am so lost, and dont understand anything. ANd when i say nothing, i really mean nothing. I was wondering if anyway can suggest a good book/textbook i could read to learn and actually understand what the hell the author is talking about and can actually learn how to program, thanks. |

I am finding this book really helpful with explaining things in great detail for people no familiar with much programming...it is called C++ Primer Plus fourth edition(newest version)...so i recommend it...there is also a topic somewhere i believe on this site that dealt with a question about books...the site had some topics about the most recommended books etc. |

some tips while picking out books - you gotta distinguish between references (books that are like a helpfile and just list syntax) and actual "learning books" - those that teach. I sujest going to chapters, and just read first chapter of books you can find on the topic. If you like how its structured, put it in "maybe" pile and then pick from those. |

one suggestion though....never buy books from chapters...they are much cheaper on amazon.ca (i saved $25 on my book) and amazon.ca gives free shipping on stuff over like 20 or something dollars. it takes a few days to get delivered for the free shipping. chapters always overprices there books...greedy punks

when u find tutorials...make sure there are exercises to go with them cuz they will help u understand and remember the code a lot better |

anyone else have any good ideas? im so lost, i dont understand anything in my class. They should have books for C++ for absolute retards (Like me) lol. I tried C++ for Dummies, but its horrible! didnt help at all... now im looking for something thats very simple and i'll actually understand! does this book exist? |

if u REALLY have no clue...check out tutorials or request a tutorial to be written for u...usually ur requests are responded purty quickly |

try the book i suggested, it is designed for someone who hasn't done anything in c++...or do what krishon said cuz usually tutorials are easier to read and understand if the person making the tutorials is experienced |
