I figured drawing rotating cubes is not as much fun, and it would be a shitload of triangles to draw to make any kind of usable model for a game... so I jumped right to my favorite 3D editor - 3DSMAX for help.

tea anyone?

lol... i'm sure that i've seen the exact same file on gametutorials =Þ

why just use gluTeapot (or someting of that sort) to make ur teapot

Author:  Tony [ Sat Jun 14, 2003 1:42 pm ]
Post subject:

I could... but its not about the tea pot... its about importing custom models for my games 8)

you should get the texture coordinates working on it too

Post subject:

how do you do proper texturing on a complicated object like this tea pot...
i mean how would make and individual texture only for the led and another one for the rest...
i think you need to know where the polygons for the lead and the body start...am i right?!

3ds max exports the texture coordinates for u

Post subject:

oh ic... that's very nice...
btw....there's special commands for using 3ds files built in OpenGL isn't there?!

Post subject:

i dont think so

Author:  Tony [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 11:33 am ]
Post subject:

well since in 3DSMAX you can work using openGL render, I assume everything done in 3DSMAX could be achieved with C++ and openGL...

that is if you have that much time/knowledge Confused

Post subject:

i think that's true....
hey now that we know the basics how bout a project?

Post subject:

Can I be in on it?

woot project Very Happy
we should all work together on a project

Author:  Martin [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 6:36 pm ]
Post subject:

Sounds good to me:D So what are we gonna make...?

Author:  Tony [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 6:36 pm ]
Post subject:

great... we'll be the l33t openGL team Very Happy

now all we need to do is get a common engine and deside on what and how we gonna do it.

Author:  Catalyst [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 6:38 pm ]
Post subject:

we need to decide on what to make b4 we make an engine for it

Author:  Martin [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 7:13 pm ]
Post subject:

Let's make something like Tribes, only focusing more on realism and the strategy element of it (as in collecting resources etc.)

Author:  Catalyst [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 7:19 pm ]
Post subject:

so team based first person shooter?
thats option one

i say space combat like star wars but free roaming dog fighting\
thats option two

Author:  Tony [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 8:34 pm ]
Post subject:

well space combat should remain on a 2D level. It would be just too complex to control ship in 3D to have any fun (though rendered in openGL with 3D models).

so option 2.5 is a multiplayer port of Mazer's Evasive Manuver (can't spell) into 3D Laughing

Actually I remember talking to Darkness about such kind of project before and we although thought it might be nice to add some strategy so...

option 2.7.5 is a multiplayer port of Mazer's game with strategic elements such as resource gathering and owning bases.

i think we should make our own game rather than borrowing someone elses

Author:  Homer_simpson [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 9:07 pm ]
Post subject:

i agree with the space shooter game... the physics are easy the graphics are also easy... it can be first person and third person shooter... right now i've made a really simple one and it's working perfectly...

all we need:
3d models and textures for objects...(some1 submit something)
nice skyboxes...(can do)
vectors for lasers and missiles...(can do)
OGL programing(can do)
some basic rules for the game...
and multiplayer mod...(can do)
and a hell lotta time which we will have since summer's almost starting...
And we can call it the compsci game or something...

now who's gonna be workin with us?
me catalyst tony darkness and who else?

Author:  Catalyst [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 9:12 pm ]
Post subject:

when we start this tony should make us a category for it on the board

Author:  Tony [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 10:22 pm ]
Post subject:

ofcourse I'll start a separate forum... it can be hidden too Wink

and yeah, my vote sticks for 3rd person space shooter.

Come on people, keep the ideas comming, then we'll create a poll to vote 8)

can i join in on this project... im not as l33t as u guys (yet) but i think it would b a great way for me to get better rather than readin tutorials all day

Author:  Catalyst [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 10:30 pm ]
Post subject:

i also say 3d 3rd person space shooter

or we could just have a key to change the view...(i know how the camera thing works) and have some 2d masking for the inside of ship views...

Author:  Catalyst [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 10:34 pm ]
Post subject:

or just run a 3d model for the the inside

Author:  Homer_simpson [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 10:41 pm ]
Post subject:

good idea...

Author:  Martin [ Mon Jun 16, 2003 1:51 pm ]
