Post subject:  Turing and C++

a few things i could think of which Turing does better than C++ is base conversion, draw stars, and mapleleafs.

Post subject:

no that's bulljizz!!!
you can draw stars or maple leaf or whatever 10 times faster with c++!!!

Post subject:

bugz... its the same damn function... Turing does convert to C++ and compile Confused

Author:  Homer_simpson [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 6:24 pm ]
Post subject:

yes but it also compiles a lotta other shit that we dont want and slows are program down =/

Post subject:

the other stuff just makes the exe large ,that and the fact turing is hybrid interpreter, at least thats what the holt site says and the runtime debug and error checking slow turing down

Post subject:

you guys misunderstood me. there is no base convertion function, draw star function and draw maple leaf function in C++

Post subject:

hehe that's what I was thinking bugz Razz

Post subject:

yeah... thats cuz tom west is pretending to be a nice guy and wrote one (or more likely found on) and included it in a custom library that is being attached to turing files.

Post subject:

You also have to admit that turing does have a much nicer error checking system than c++ (at least microsoft visual c++).

Also, umm...yeah. Better error checking.

Post subject:

what do u mean by base convertion?!

Author:  bugzpodder [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 8:55 pm ]
Post subject:

yes that too, Darkness.

base conversion is when you convert from one base to another (helpful, arent I)

Author:  Mazer [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 8:57 pm ]
Post subject:

he means 1000101(base 2) = 69 (base 10)

which can be done easily in turing by:

code:

put strint ("1000101", 2)

Author:  Homer_simpson [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 9:28 pm ]
Post subject:

lol of course c++ does base changin!!!

Author:  AsianSensation [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 9:50 pm ]
Post subject:

not as easy as Turing. I rememeber that DWITE contest, question 5, with base changing, it was soooo easy to do with turing. I think it would been a lot harder with C++

Author:  Martin [ Mon Jun 09, 2003 9:51 pm ]
Post subject:

Turing's a nice language to use for low level contests because of its easy syntax

Post subject:

ya plus the fact that the turing editor can practically teach the students so the teachers get off easy

Post subject:

ah, c++ can do base coversion in one line with the libarys my school has...

ur school's cheap then

One of the big things that I hate about people and C++/Turing is that there are so many people who say that their programs are crap because turing is crap. Here it is for you: If you're program's crappy, it's because you're a crappy programmer. Simple as that. Also, if you can't make anything half-decent in turing, there's no way that you're going to get c++.

hm... why did that last remark make me think of james? Wink

ya i agree with darkness, look at mazer, turing sux crap and he made a comercial quallity game...

Post subject:

martin, dun b retarded, u know turin is sloppy on da 3d side n the higher level...it's nice at the low levelz n all...o wellz, wut do we know, we haven't even graduated hi skoo yet...

crono are u john?

Author:  Martin [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 7:18 pm ]
Post subject:

That's not what I'm talking about. Yeah, c++ IS better than turing. I'm just annoyed with people who can't program worth shit in turing claiming that they could be awesome 'if only they knew c++'.

Author:  SilverSprite [ Sun Jun 15, 2003 7:34 pm ]
Post subject:

I agree completely Darkness!! I can think of soo many people who are like that..

(first time using quotes, hehe, i'm not doing it right :S)
Anywas thats what asian said, and i don't think that he has any right to say that considering YOU DONT KNOW ANY C++ Razz

note the "I think"

oh well, time to learn C++ so I can back up what I say.[/b]

Post subject:

and now after your experience with c++?

Author:  AsianSensation [ Mon Jun 16, 2003 7:45 pm ]
Post subject:

experience with C++:

acquiring the software: $100 (yeah right)
finding a good tutorial site: 20 minutes (that's like what, $50?)
finally learning to put ";" after everyline: priceless

anyways, i always get like 10 errors when i compile, and all because i forget to put the colon.

Author:  SilverSprite [ Mon Jun 16, 2003 8:31 pm ]
Post subject:

It's a SEMI-colon LOSER Razz, maybe thats why you have 10 errors. And since when do you think!

Author:  AsianSensation [ Mon Jun 16, 2003 8:34 pm ]
Post subject:

whatever, u know what i was talking about

semi-colons
