Post subject:  Gr 11 Final Prject: Gravity Game

I call this game Forces at the moment... but i'm not too sure i like it.
I made this for my summative project, and i must say i'm very happy about it.
It's completly procedure-based, i haven't learned anyhting about classes ect.
A computer with a 1 Gig processor is reccomended at the moment, though i will be adding preformance setting when i'm done.... Yeah, so it's not entirely finished, but i do believe the game is playable... people in my class do play it for the entire period.
Readme in the zip file, but quick rundown:
Kill the enemies with the sparkles you make by holding down the left mouse button. Right-Click to repel, Middle-Click to attract sparkles. The faster the sparkles, the more damage they do. You have 4 special "powers", press spacebar to use them, and B to switch.
Enjoy Very Happy

Edit:
Features list:
Bit-Blit fading effect, 2.5D star backround, scrolling world, cool particle physics, Coulombs Law charge equation for repulsion and attraction, and it's really pretty to boot Razz

EDIT: This is now posted in the [FP] section: Edited
http://www.compsci.ca/v2/viewtopic.php?t=12468
sorry about the wrong link :S

Edit:The game now also has its own wiki page

Sick game man, probably XBox 360 quality Very Happy . I'd be very interested to know how you did this. When its finished being marked, can you post the source code?

This game should be an example to others: You don't need external graphics for the game to look good, so stop b******g for em.

Absolutely amazing. I wish I had some sort of artisic ability so I could understand how to do something like that - well I can understand how, but to come up with that on your own? Incredible.

Very well done.

Dont' get me wrong, there's always room for improvement, but seeing the skill he has put into this game - i think he'll know what to do next (i.e. loop the game, top10 high scores, etc.)

Sorry, as you can see i'm new to these forums, and i posted it here first, before i saw the FP page... sorry.

But yeah, i AM improving it, and yeah, i've fixed the cheapness of the 4th power... and i've already added a bunch of new stuff (walls, for example) i'll be posting it on tuesday, most likely, because i have a field trip to go to. Very Happy

EDIT: Okay, yeah, i'm a total nerd... i stayed up, even though i have to wake up at 6:00 monday morning, and i finished adding some features, which I uploaded to the FP section: http://www.compsci.ca/v2/viewtopic.php?t=12468
I love feedback! i've already implimented most of the stuff suggested!

Post subject:  Okay, Finally uploaded "full" version!

So I spent 20 minutes and I uploaded a "full" version of my game. It's 84 megs! The gameplay is exactly the same, but there is much higher quality music, backround "video" of the menu, and a trailer for the game that runs when the game first starts, of when you select it from the settings menu (though, if you delete the settings file, it will think that it's running for the first time...)

note:
At this sime, I only have 114 frames of the total 600 of the menu animation... but everything else is complete. I'll be reuploading when I get the full version.

Really nice effects and original gameplay. I find the difficulty to be way to easy. Its nearly impossible to die. I leave my mouse near the bottom left corner and the enemies only spawn from the top right so Im just sitting there taping D...
For the trailer why dont you just script some action sequences using your game engine rather than taking screenshots?

Well, i thought of that... that WOULD be the efficient and smart thing to do. But, it was getting near the end of year, and i figured the work to benefit ratio was simply not worth me coding a system that saves all the variables and then loads them... very tedious. Also, i couldn't resize the pictures to a lower res because Turing's Pic.Resize breaks, and isn't reliable. I also couldn't find any program that reduces a whole load of picture's quality any more than i already have.

(also, this large version of the game was meant to be on a CD, so i didn't really care about file size... as you may notice with my 10 meg mp3s Razz )

Haha...

When you've got a trailer on YouTube and your own page on the CompSci.ca wiki, now that's success!

Congrats windsurfer!

Actually, Windsurfer created that trailer, it's part of his game.

Here you go.
I think windsurfer got the link wrong on the first post of this topic, but he did give a clue that it's located on the FP page...

Correct. I've just recorded Turing's animation, and a tiny bit of post-processing.

The fuller version is available from the Forces Page is of better quality. Most notably "save game"

Yes, the newer version does have more features... and the gameplay was also tweaked, but who wants to hear about that? Frankly, i'd just like to play lol.

I know that, I meant how did he add the extra stuff on the end, all the trailer in-game is a bunch of quotes zooming in and out of the screen, theres no gameplay shown onscreen...

Post subject:

all the animations are 40 Mb worth of screenshots that were taken out of the uploaded version, and were recorded into a stand-alone trailer instead. Though it was all originally directed and included with Turing.

Yes, those screenshots were really quite a waste of space, to say the least, especially when considering the exe is aboput a meg Confused
The idea of a trailer was me having to fulfill the requirement for an "advertising" component for my final project.
