Whats going to kill you is that i only pay about $50 a month for mine for 171 times more speed and the only limit is a 100GB cap (witch does suck).

Lets just say I am not paying for those speeds, but in fact a lower profile....they just forgot to change it...

But I don't like Cogeco, evil company like Bell & Rogers. Especially since their $1.50/GB usage based billing.

Wow. If I were you I would make an example out of a few of those employees. Honestly, are they the only ISP in your area? Someone should bring a price fixing lawsuit against them for that.

thanks for the tar and feather link, that was entertaining Very Happy. However, yes they are the ONLY ISP in my area, I live in a very rural part of nowhere :p It's kind of cruelly funny, the Rogers guys stopped laying fibre optic cable roughly 300 ft away from my house Sad. So for now I'm stuck with this satellite crap.

Download : 42MB/s
Upload : 63MB/s

The connection is for my servers and I own 7 of them. Smile

Server = Computer

They are the same thing. I categorize my 7 computers as servers because they are used as servers. They also have a casing the fits in a rack making it easy maintain.

Purchasing internet is the best way to go because in order to become an ISP yourself it takes a lot of money that you don't and probably will never have. The money it takes to setup satellites and what not can become millions to 100's of millions of dollars.

Well if we are going to go by servers then i have a 100mbps up and down and a 10mbps up and down one, but thats just boring.

I am not sure what purchashing internet means but i think the best way is to rent one in a data center or rent space in a data center. Data centers can provied alot better uptime then your basement and noramly have better and reduent uplinks.

Post subject:  Re: RE:Testing SIG

I meant by paying for internet through a provider. Smile

I am happy with my connection. I have 3 separate lines so I do not share bandwidth. Also my line is bought from Intellicom Networks they are a private business for multi billionaire companies. They provide connection for Nexon America, and a few other top gaming companies. I heard about them through a friend of mine who applied at Microsoft last year and was accepted through network hacking or something.

Great company Smile

Post subject:  RE:Testing SIG

Well the conection is only one part of the puzzel to having a stable server.

You also need redeunt up links (more then one connection to the same box, hopffuly to the backbone), back up power generation systems (not just a UPS but aucatal generators), a secure location so no one can break in or a fire burn it all down and a staff of peoleop to make sure it stays up and running.

You could make all that your self but unless you have alot of servers it's not going to be worth it compared to colocation or renting a deadicated server in a professional data center.

Satellite isn't always reliable, because occasionally during a bad storm the signal gets all messed up and you lose a percentage of your internet connectivity. Smile
Best way to go is probably through DSL/ ADSL2 and anything that is directly cable.

That is my opinion if anyone wants to add to it Smile
