It's been <a href="http://compsci.ca/blog/more-on-video-game-and-programming-jobs/" title="More on Video Game and Programming jobs" rel="nofollow">pointed out</a> that software development companies, such as Microsoft (which I'm sure are behind this contest) are looking for you to be passionate at what you do. Approaching just such contests with excitement will demonstrate that, and you'll have a nifty demo to show for yourself. Good question – I would think at least indirectly.
